Coley Cary is a photographer and writer based in the Berkshires. She studied photography in college as part of a Journalism degree, developing her film processing and technical skills while continuing to explore a wide range of subject matter. Coley has spent more than a decade working professionally in photography. She has worked with more than 300 clients across commercial, event, product, interior, and real estate photography, and was trained in Lifetouch School Photography and as a Google Trusted Photographer.
She also served as the official town photographer for Bel Air, Maryland, documenting local events and community life. She was also the exclusive photographer for Mrs. Maryland America 2013, capturing appearances and headshots. Her photography has received more than 30 million views on Google and has been featured in regional exhibitions and publications. Coley’s photographs were selected for the Harford County Public Library Juried Photography Exhibition A Nation Divided, held in recognition of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Her work has also appeared in various galleries and local exhibitions. Her writing has been commissioned by local publications such as 1Berkshire and The B Magazine.
Today, Coley pursues creative, long-term photographic projects that often explore social ideas and causes. Her current project, The Last Quiet Place: Libraries of the Berkshires, documents all 31 public libraries in Berkshire County through photography and personal Field Notes. Her photographs prioritize conceptual depth over aesthetic repetition, creating images that carry meaningful ideas and the experience of a place rather than relying on visual appeal alone.
