I took my first photography class at fourteen. My high school had a new liberal arts wing with a darkroom, and I worked with my mother’s Canon EOS Rebel. In that class, I learned the foundations of shooting and film development, and discovered a lasting commitment to photography as a practice.
I studied photography in college as part of a Broadcast Journalism degree, further developing my film processing skills while continuing to explore a wide range of subject matter. After college, I began producing photo-documentary work and joined Lifetouch School Photography, gaining additional experience in workflow, equipment, and photographing people in real time.
I later founded my own photography business, working with clients to create imagery for commercial and promotional use. My work included headshots and team portraits, interior photography for commercial spaces such as restaurants, hotels, gyms, and retail environments, event coverage, product photography for e-commerce, and real estate photography.
During this period, I trained as a Google Trusted Photographer, producing virtual tours for businesses. This included photographing every YMCA in Maryland, along with several restaurant chains and franchise locations. I also served as the official town photographer for Bel Air, Maryland, documenting local events, and was the exclusive photographer for Mrs. Maryland America 2013, capturing both appearances and headshots. My work has been featured in regional publications and magazines, later to include Berkshire Magazine. My work was selected for the Harford County Public Library Juried Photography Exhibition A Nation Divided, held in recognition of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Over several years, I worked with more than 300 clients, an experience that strengthened both my technical practice and my ability to build professional relationships.
After 13 years of building that business, I began to feel a shift in my artistic inspiration. I wanted to bring more of my creative voice into my photography. I was drawn toward work that felt expressive and more deeply connected to the causes I’m passionate about. That shift brought me here, to projects that feel like an extension of myself.
Although I’m a multi-disciplinary artist with two creative practices, including fine art printmaking, photography has always been my primary focus and passion. I now work primarily on long-term photographic projects. My photographs center on emotional presence and often engage with social ideas connected to my community and culture. I prioritize conceptual depth over aesthetic repetition, aiming to create images that carry meaning rather than simply visual appeal. My strength lies in translating ideas and lived experience into visual form.
